Khalida Saalim

Khalida Saalim is responsible for coordinating CLCD’s COVID-19 in West Africa Media Analysis project. She is a recent graduate of Georgetown University’s Global Health program. She is most passionate about sexual and reproductive health rights and access. Her undergraduate research at Georgetown focused on women’s perceptions of postnatal care attendance in Dodowa, Ghana. Khalida is presently pursuing her master’s degree at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. From this project, Khalida aspires to gain key leadership, qualitative research, and academic writing skills. After the project and upon receiving her master’s degree, she hopes to continue her work in public health research through working with non-governmental organizations to expand women’s rights globally and to eventually enroll in a Ph.D. program.

Emily Morrison

Emily Morrison is a junior at the University of South Carolina. She is a biological sciences major and criminal justice minor from Lexington, South Carolina. Her long term career goal is to become an epidemiologist focusing on rare infectious diseases. Emily is working our COVID-19 in West Africa media analysis project as a research assistant. Her research interests include infectious disease epidemiology, parasitic infectious diseases and primary amebic meningoencephalitis.

Avery Westendorf 

Avery Westendorf is a senior at the University of South Carolina pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a minor in Medical Humanities and Culture. She plans to get her master’s degree in Global Health and Infectious Disease Epidemiology. She loves to travel and hopes to work abroad doing research. Currently, Avery is working as a research assistant on the COVID-19 in West Africa Media Analysis project.

Fatema Tuz Zohra

Fatema Tuz Zohra completed her graduation in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Bangladesh Dental College, University of Dhaka. In her undergraduate research, she conducted a cross-sectional study on poor oral hygiene among the urban population of Bangladesh. 

She is now a student in the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at Oakland University. Currently, she is working as a research assistant on the COVID-19 in West Africa Media Analysis project. From this project, she expects to achieve experience on collaborative research, new software skills, and academic writing skills. Her research interests include Infection control, cancer prevention, maternal and child health and global health. Her long-term goal is to pursue her PhD and work as a medical researcher.

Atoysha Bassene

Atoysha Bassene holds a Bachelor’s in Health Science from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. She is currently a second-year graduate student at Oakland University where she is majoring in Public Health. Her interest in Public Health began while vacationing in West Africa. Atoysha aspires to pursue a career in global health and epidemiology to improve the health of vulnerable populations. She is assisting Dr. Kwame Sakyi in researching and analyzing West African media reports on COVID-19. In her free time, she enjoys travelling, reading, and spending time with her family.

Adwoa P. Boateng

Adwoa P. Boateng is a UWC Robert Bosch College alumnus. She is a Biology student at St. Lawrence University (SLU). Adwoa enjoys volunteering for community projects; She loves to challenge herself, explore new things and embrace diversity. Adwoa is a teaching assistant for Advanced Stylistic English at St. Lawrence University. Adwoa is also a writing tutor at SLU writing center. Adwoa hopes to attain a graduate degree in public health after her bachelor’s degree.  Adwoa wishes to become a public health advisor to governmental and non-governmental organizations in underserved communities.
